I hope you are getting excited about this Sunday. I know I am. It’s not very often that we get to celebrate Christmas—the birth of Christ—on Sunday, the day that most Christian churches have set aside to worship Jesus Christ. The next time will be 2022, another six years. The last time was 2011, five years ago. I don’t recall that being a big deal. But, I was not pastoring a church in 2011, so that’s probably the difference.
I’m excited this year because I will have the privilege to preach on the Hope of the Christmas Story. So many feel hopeless this time of year. I feel privileged to offer hope though Christ. I know that many are out of town this time of year, but if you are in town, I hope you are excited as I am and will be able to come worship and celebrate Christ’s birth.
As I write this, Jami is in the kitchen getting dusty with flour, creating a gift for everyone this coming Sunday. Lorelei is hard at work on the computer creating a graphic for this Sunday’s gift. And tonight, we will all come together as a family to celebrate the Advent of Christ in anticipation of tomorrow.
We have some other very exciting things coming together as we anticipate the New Year as well. We put together a new playlist of music for next year. It includes a few new songs and a lot of the same ones we have been learning throughout 2016. You can find the playlist on our website, SonrisePalmdale.com. I encourage you to check it out. Listen to it at home, in the car, at the office, with your family.
And finally, I set up an order for reusable grocery bags this week…you heard that right. Wanda Southwick had the great idea of printing reusable grocery bags to hand out in the community. We will be doing that next month. Many people have asked if they can have a couple for themselves. The answer to that question is, yes! We are order 1000 of them. You can purchase them for $2 apiece as soon as they are available. I would even encourage you to purchase a few for your neighbors.
Praying for all of Sonrise Church this week! May the Lord set your eyes on Him, fix your mind on Jesus, cause you to love Him and others more, and remember the great gift we have in the birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. I pray you find yourself blessed as you focus your lives on Him.
